It was hard work but researchers have finally made the breakthrough needed to finally end the exhausting debate, “what is the best food for the cold months?”

Perhaps, that’s bit of a stretch and we should clarify.  Public opinion, marketing firm YouGov has determined shepherd’s pie is the most popular winter comfort food in the UK.  A whopping 60-percent of respondents chose the traditional British delicacy, edging out lasagna.

In case you don’t know, shepherd’s pie is a meat pie topped with mashed potatoes.

Finishing out the poll: Chicken curry (come on, the Brits can’t give up their curries), beef chili and chicken and mushroom pie.

Being some of the most caloric dishes you can consume, a special diets and health manager for the firm who commissioned the study said it was important to get “the balance right between enjoying yourself and not over indulging”.
