Study: Fructose leads to overeating

A new study suggests that consuming fructose based drinks leads to overeating.

According to the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, fructose triggers brain changes that may lead to overeating.  Fructose is a common sugar found in many prepared food and drinks.  Scientists at Yale used MRI scans to track brain activity in 20 normal-weight people before and after they drank beverages containing glucose or fructose.  Researchers found that parts of the brain associated with desire for food, motivation, and reward processing were switched off or suppressed.

Despite the findings, researchers say more testing needs to be done to determine if there is an exact correlation.
