Paris’ oldest bakery closes

Paris’ oldest bakery closed its doors on Monday after more than 200 years in business.

The downtown bakery near the Louvre Museum has fallen victim to soaring real estate prices and increased competition from neighboring eateries.

The 67-year-old owner and baker has run the shop for 43 years and says he’s being forced to turn off his ovens after the landlord doubled his rent.  The baker says there is no way the business can stay profitable with the higher rent.
